The Personal Assessment home-page of this portal is aimed at assessing the contribution of individuals to the overall sustainability of the community within which they reside. This page, in contrast, draws together those individual inputs to provide an assessment of the sustainability of a community as a whole.
The individual personal assessments invited inputs on a scale of 1-to-4, with scales 1 representing the least sustainable personal circumstances, scales 2 & 3 representing incremental improved sustainability, and scale 4 the most sustainable personal circumstances.
The assessment tool on this page is intended for use by those with responsibilities for encouraging the development of sustainable communities in their sphere of influence, such as District or Borough Councils. Please read the the guidance notes before starting.
GUIDANCE NOTES ON INPUTTING THE 10 SUSTAINABILITY CRITERIA ACCESSED VIA THE ICONS BELOW:
First, determine the geographical boundary of the community being assessed; this should coincide with the basis on which the personal data has been submitted. This prototype portal, for example, has assumed this to be the first half of the individual’s post-code, but could be a political Ward or some other criteria if preferred.
Next, using existing lines of community communications, “recruit” a statistically meaningful pool of, say, at least 100 individuals representative of the geography chosen who are willing to make personal inputs annually, so that progress year-by-year can be tracked.
These inputs are then summated and averaged to provide the straightforward numerical inputs to the surveys accessed via the icons below.
The sustainability gradings resulting are then intended to inform the policies and strategies of the Authority concerned for working towards community sustainability goals in the geography selected, and the year-by-year progress being made towards meeting those goals.
